How Do I Know if Martha Lake Elementary is Closed, or 2 Hour Late Start Because of Snow or Other?

*The decision for late start or school closure is made by the Edmonds School District

*Check the School District Website: If School is 2 hours late, or closed, it will be on the front page, or

*Watch the tv news, or listen to the radio. Listen or watch for the Edmonds School District to know if it will be a 2 hour late start, or school is closed

SAFETY – Stay Off The Ice!

Please follow simple safety steps:

Guardians, Parents, and everyone should stay off the ice!

Remind children and young people NEVER to venture onto frozen water. Even if it appears thick from the bank, it becomes thinner very quickly. Martha Lake’s ice is never solid enough to hold a person and can cause a drowning hazard.

Adults - set a good example by staying off the ice.

If a dog or other animal ventured onto the ice, or falls through it, do NOT go to rescue - you are likely to end up in the freezing water as well and unable to help the animal. Never throw sticks or balls onto the ice for your dog.

Call 9-1-1 for help.

Fact: Over 50% of ice related drownings involve an attempted rescue of a dog!

If you do see a person or animal in trouble in icy water,
stay on the bank and phone 911.

If you can reach the person with a branch, clothing tied together or other items then you could try to do so but STAY ON THE BANK and still have someone call 911.

STAY SAFE – Stay Off the Ice

How Do I Get Inside the School Now?

Enhanced school security started on Monday, January 29, 2018. Doors of the school lock at 8:50 am, and open again at 3:11 pm.

To get inside the school, come to front doors nearest the flag pole. Press the white rectangle shaped button at the panel on the far right side of the blue double-doors. The Martha Lake office will be able to see you and talk with you and unlock the door.

You must still come to the main office, sign in, and get a visitor/volunteer badge.
