Dear Martha Lake Elementary,

We want to tell you that we stand with our black families, students, and staff. We stand with our families and students who are people of color. We stand with you!

Below are some resources that some families used to talk with their student/s. Feel free to use this information if it works for you and your family:

We care about you and are concerned for you. We stand with you now in times of protest and upheaval, and we also stand with you in all other times. We are here for you.

Signed With Caring, and in Solidarity,

Tom Trexel

Meet Ms. Kay
Martha Lake Elementary’s New Principal
new principal

Stephanie Kay-Fredrickson  is currently the Assistant Principal at Broadview-Thomson PK-8 School in Seattle. She begins in our district July 1, 2020.

Please join us in giving Ms. Kay a warm Martha Lake Elementary welcome!

Principal Tom Trexel will be teaching a class of lucky second graders at Brier Elementary next school year. Mr. Trexel is excited to spend the next school year immersing himself in learning and understanding the curriculum each of our teachers work with every day. He plans to return as a principal in the district (but not at MLE) for the 2021-22 school year. We’re going to miss you, Mr. Trexel!

If your student wants to send a picture/holding a card or drawing for Mr. Trexel, please send it to your classroom teacher. Thank you.

PTA is Parent Teacher Association...

... a group of volunteers who help the school

Important Things for NEXT School Year:

  1. New PTA Leaders are picked. Don’t worry, just coming to the meeting won’t get you picked. The nominations have already happened.

  2. But, if you WANT to be involved, it’s not too late. Email: president@marthalakepta.com

Tell PTA if you’re interested and what you would like to do to help the school. Work during the week? It’s okay. PTA meetings are at night and a lot of things can be done from home.

Speak another language? THAT’S A BONUS! Please tell PTA and tell them what you would like to do for the school community.

Volunteering for PTA is a great way to spend time with friends, and meet new friends.

  1. Budget for the 2020-2021 school year will be approved. Want to request money for things for NEXT school year? This is the time to ask for it in the budget.

Tell us if you have questions. Be well and stay safe!

A Message From Edmonds School District’s EAACH
(Equity Alliance for Achievement)

Dear Edmonds School District Community,

EAACH believes that Black Lives Matter, and we stand in solidarity with our Black students, families, staff, administration and community.

We call on our Edmonds School District community at all levels to speak up and speak out about racial injustice, to take action and support one another. We must make our schools and our homes places where racism is unwelcome; we must make empathy, acceptance, and love our common, guiding values.

Our District has committed to a Race and Equity Policy, and Black Lives Matter Resolution—and we will continue to build on the work to hold our system accountable.  We believe this work is critical and invite you to join us as a community-led collective of students, families, teachers and administrators.

Recognizing That Many are Experiencing Stress and Trauma at This Time,
